  • Posada Progress 2016 (20 photos)

Posada is an old Mexican tradition where young people dressed as Mary and Joseph travelled from house to house asking for a room for the night and telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus in the weeks leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Eve they would visit the local church to re-enact the nativity and place figures of Mary and Joseph in a crib.

Modern day Posada uses nativity figures of Mary and Joseph who travel from place to place. This gives each ‘host’ the chance to create their own celebration in their home or place in the community, worshipping and reaching out to their communities with the real message of Christmas, making room for Jesus in their lives.

In Chet Valley Benefice our Posada figures – Mary, Joseph and the donkey – left our Benefice communion service in Chedgrave on 30th November. They are now out and about travelling from house to house, visiting our churches on Sundays, and will finish their journey at the Crib Service on Christmas Eve in Holy Trinity, Loddon.

Here are some photos showing where they have been.

  • Xplore Group (8 photos)

Xplore, held in October 2014, was a special group for young people who are members of our church, usually coming to Xpressions Cafe and All Together Worship. It gave the chance to ask questions about God, to reflect on Bible stories and to think about church and what it is to be part of God’s family. There was the usual mix of activities, stories, games, food... It took place over several sessions. One of the things that we did on the course was to make tableau of some of the events at Easter (see photos). The characters were then interviewed to see what they felt about the scene. Another of the things that we did was to reflect on what Jesus meant when he said, "I am the bread of life". Some of the young people were willing to share their thoughts. They are on the slice of bread picture. Those children who wished, having completed the course, were able to ask to be admitted to take communion and on 30th November 2014, 10 children were admitted to communion in our churches at a Benefice Service in All Saints Chedgrave. It was a joyful celebration!
